New Maybelline Color Show Street Art chic

Maybelline is introducing a new line of Color Show polishes called Street Art featuring matte glitter!
I haven't seen anything about this new line of Maybelline Color Show polishes, so I thought I'd post some pictures of the display and some swatches of the two polishes I picked up from the collection. I believe these are going to be a permanent part of the core line because there is nothing to indicate that these are limited edition. I'm so glad that mainstream polish companies are putting out indie-style shades, these are essentially colorful versions of the black and white glitter from Maybelline Color Show's Polka Dot collection.

Bottle shots and swatches after the cut!

I only picked up two of this line since they aren't limited and I want to wait for a sale to pick up the rest!

New Maybelline Color Show Blue Beats Nighttime Noise

Here is a hastily done skittle swatch of the two shades. Maybelline Nighttime Noise is a mix of bright cobalt blue and black matte hex glitter in many sizes and small cobalt bar glitter in a clear base. Maybelline Blue Beats is the same mix, only featuring a lovely teal blue. These are fairly dense, this is one "coat" (aka dip n' dab) over OPI My Vampire is Buff.

New Maybelline Color Show Blue Beats Nighttime Noise

Here they are, labeled for clarity. Just to point it out, that is a gigantic piece of black hex glitter on my ring finger. That size is sparse and a bit difficult to fish out, but it's there!

For the curious, here are bottle shots of the rest of the line. Sorry for the shoddy picture quality, I always feel a little strange taking photos inside stores!

Birthday Present nail art

Hello! Wednesday was my birthday, and today is the birthday of this little blog! So in honor of those two things, I thought I'd post my birthday nails. I'd like to thank everyone who has commented on and followed my blog over the last year. I'm so thankful to all of you! It has been so much fun to share my nail art and swatches with you over these past 12 months, and I hope to continue to do so for as long as possible!

I spent my birthday with friends, and I decorated cookies for the very first time! Here's my favorite!

Gingerbread Cookie Lady

See? Even my cookie lady cares about her manicure!

More pictures of my manicure and some unicorn cookies after the cut!

Maybe not ready for Pinterest just yet, but I love my little Santa Unicorn.

Here's another attempt. Lol.

Sally Hansen Sugar Shimmer Swatches and Review

Hello all! I hope every had a merry Christmas who celebrates it, and a great day even if you don't!
Today I have a couple swatches of the Sally Hansen Sugar Shimmer texture polishes, a rebranding of the Sugar Coat line. I only purchased one of the Sugar Coat shades, and wasn't totally pleased. I wonder if this re-release is in response to others feeling similarly? The previous release was almost entirely shimmer-free, which I am not a fan of, while these all have shimmer to some degree.

 Sally Hansen Sugar Plum

Fist up is Sally Hansen Sugar Plum, a pink texture with gold shimmer. This is pretty, but rather thin. It took three coats for the swatch, but I would've been more comfortable with four for complete opacity. The gold is very apparent, and sugar sparkly.

Sally Hansen Sugar Plum Sally Hansen Sugar Plum

Sally Hansen Sugar Plum w/ topcoat

With topcoat, the gold shines even more. The thinness affects topcoat application, in my opinion. Most textures do just fine with a combo of Gelous and quick-dry TC, but this was still a bit lumpy. I think the grainy bits that make this textured are far more sparse than in many other brands, like Zoya or OPI. This is still quite pretty, but I'm not sure if it's worth the effort.

Sally Hansen Mint Tint

This is Sally Hansen Mint Tint, a mint texture with subtle gold shimmer. This looks like guacamole to me, and is not really a look I go for. I was hopeful that the gold shimmer would be more evident, but it's totally lost in the creaminess of the base. This was three coats.

Here it is with topcoat, which doesn't really remedy the situation. Once again, it's super lumpy and the gold shimmer is lost.

Over all, I'm unimpressed. I'm not sure I'm gonna be trying any more textures by Sally Hansen. You'd think the second time trying textures would give them a chance to work the kinks out.

Urban Outfitters Beaded Swatches and Review

Spotted some fun looking polishes at Urban Outfitters the other day. The dense, single sized matte hex glitter gave me a distinct"Floam" vibe, as you can see in these swatches. I had to give them a shot!

Urban Outfitters Blue Beaded swatch

Urban Outfitters Blue Beaded is a mix of tiny cobalt and white matte hex glitter in a clear base. This is two coats. This wasn't a ton of fun to apply, i would have preferred three coats for opacity, but two was pushing my gloopiness limit. I'll probably layer this over a pale blue or something when I wear it for real.

Urban Outfitters Fucshia Beaded swatch

Urban Outfitters Fucshia Beaded (sic) is a mix of tiny white and fucshia matte hex glitter in a clear base. This is exactly the same as Blue Beaded formula wise, two coats. I love the look of these, so I'm happy I got them! PS: Blogger's spell check is informing me that I am spelling fuchsia incorrectly in my caption, but I triple checked, and I promise that's what it says on the label!

Orly Galaxy FX Collection Swatches and Review! (Winter 2013/14)

I picked up the entire Orly Galaxy FX collection from Sally's the other day and have swatches for you! The collection features lots of indie-style glitter bombs in fun color combinations with a fun space themed color pallete, I am really pleased over all. Onto swatches!

Orly Star Trooper swatch

Orly Star Trooper is a mix of gold hex glitter and smaller white hex glitter in a brown jelly base packed with bronze shimmer. This polish is complex, as are all the shades in the collection. Super sparkly and unique! This is three coats.

 Orly Starburst swatch

Orly Starburst is a mix of gold hex glitter, smaller copper hex glitter, even smaller red hex glitter, and sparse large circular silver glitter in a milky white base. I love the look of glitters in a milky base, and this is no exception! The circle glitter requires some fishing, but I really love the effect! This is three thin coats, I would probably layer over white.

Orly Black Hole swatch

Next is Orly Black Hole, a mix of blue and red hex glitter, larger white hex glitter, blue bar glitter, and silver circle glitter in a black jelly base. This is reminds me so much of 4th of July fireworks! Patriotic but still a little edgy! This is two coats.

Orly Gravity Bound swatch

Orly Gravity Bound is a mix of purple and white hex glitter in a dark shimmery blue base. I like this okay, but wish it had some of the circle glitter the others have to give it some oomph. It's the most "standard" shade in a collection filled with funky and complex combination. Three coats.

Orly Milky Way swatch

Orly Milky Way is a mix of copper hex glitter, larger holographic hex glitter, and blue shimmer in a milky pale blue base. This is one of my favorites of the collection! It reminds me of Revlon Whimsical but with fun contrast in the glitter! Delicate and pretty while at the same time fun and eye catching! Three coats. Again, I'd probably layer this.

Orly Intergalactic Space swatch

Last but not least is Orly Intergalactic Space, a nix of copper hex glitter,  purple hex glitter, and large white circle glitter in a shimmery navy base. I love this one! My favorite of the collection. So unique and sparkly, and definitely give me a cosmic vibe. The circles looks like distant planets amidst space dust. So cool. Three coats.

L'Oreal Gold Dust Collection Swatches and Review

I've got swatches of four of the new L'Oreal Gold Dust Collection, a new line of texture polishes. I've been sitting on these swatches for a couple weeks, I don't know what I was waiting for. I do believe these will be part of the core collection, so at least you'll still be able to find them if you haven't gotten your hands on them yet. There were several more shades in the collection, but they were a bit flat, along the lines of Orly's Mega Pixels so I wasn't too excited about those.

 L'Oreal Too Dimensional swatch

L'Oreal Too Dimensional is a royal blue texture with gold and green shimmers. This is along the lines of Alcatraz Rocks and Sparkle In The Sky, but with more green and gold. Two coats.

And with topcoat.

L'Oreal Sexy in Sequins swatch

L'Oreal Sexy in Sequins is a purple texture with gold and fuchsia shimmers. I love love love this one! I think I might even like this one more than Alcatraz...Rocks! This is one coat, the formula is a bit thick

L'Oreal Sexy in Sequins topcoat

This is like freaking magic with topcoat. It was honestly hard to photograph in sunlight because it's so sparkly, so here's a ton of pictures.

L'Oreal I Like It Chunky swatch

L'Oreal I Like It Chunky is a rusty orange texture with gold glitter and copper shimmer. I got this mostly because it was so unique, I didn't expect to like it so much! Kind of a gross name, though. Two Coats.

L'Oreal I Like It Chunky swatch

And even more with topcoat! Super sparkly!

L'Oreal Hidden Gems swatch

Finally, L'Oreal Hidden Gems is a blackened turquoise texture polish with silver glitters and very slight purple duochrome. Unfortunately, this is way more duochrome in the bottle and I was kind of disappointed by it on the nail. Without those expectations, however, I still think this is very pretty. This is two coats.

L'Oreal Hidden Gems swatch

L'Oreal Hidden Gems topcoat

I really love this with topcoat. The duochrome is still not super apparent, but it's super sparkly and complex.

L.A. Girl Splash swatch

Okay, I said I'd had enough of these kinds of polish...but I lied. The new L.A. Girl Splatter collection has a shade I just could resist! L.A. Girl Splash is a lovely combination of aqua and white matte hex glitter. It's just so delicate and pretty! It made me want to bust out all my Springy pastel shades and read the archives of one of my favorite blogs. It reqired a bit of the ole' dip and dab method, but nothing crazy. This is one coat over Zoya Dove.

More layering combinations after the jump!

One coat over Sally Hansen Peach Beach, from the recent summer collection.

Finger Paints Kaleidoscope Collection Swatches and Review(Winter/Spring 2014)

Finger Paints Kaleidoscope Collection (Winter/Spring 2014) bottle shots

When Finger Paints came out with their last flakie collection, I was not as crazy as I am now, and had manged to convince myself that they were all the same. I only got two of them, and have been kicking myself ever since. So when I heard there were new flakies, I ran to get the whole collection! Finger Paints' Kaleidoscope collection is made up of 5 different flakie shades with different color combinations in a slightly milky clear base. I swatched one thick coat over Wet N Wild Black Creme for all of these.

Finger Paints Abstract Abstraction swatch

Finger Paints Abstract Abstraction is a mix of blue and purple flakies. Love this one, definitely my favorite!

Finger Paints Colorful Dream swatch

Finger Paints Colorful Dream is a mix of blue, green, purple, orange (amongst others!) flakies. If you only get one of this collection, I think this is the one! Such a lovely effect. Looks like confetti.

Finger Paints Psychedelic Hue swatch

Finger Paints Psychedelic Hue is a mix of mostly blue and green flakies. The color combination isn't anything new, but I must say the variety of shape and size in all of these shades sets them apart.

Finger Paints Symmetrical Symphony swatch

Finger Paints Symmetrical Symphony is a mix of blue and yellow flakies. I love the contrast here!

Finger Paints Vivid Reflection swatch

Finger Paints Vivid Reflection is a mix of pink and orange flakies. I love this one a lot, too! The color combination is so pretty. I want to try this over a purple!

Finger Paints Kaleidoscope Collection Comparison

And here is a comparison shot of all five, so you can see the differences. I'm really happy I got all five, I love the unique look flakie shades give a manicure. This is only one coat, I imagine a second would make even more of an impact!

Hellooooo! I've had quite a busy week or so! 2014 has already been a year to remember, and we're barely into February! I'm from Atlanta, and you may have heard that Atlanta had a bit of a snow fiasco. I blame all the snow nail artI was doing.

Anyway, today I wanted share some Valentine's Day nail art. I really love hearts, I have a growing collection of heart shaped sunglasses and more sweaters with hearts than an adult should maybe own. So, I'm excited to have every excuse (not that I need one) to do cheesy cliche nail art!

Cartoon Gemstone Nail Art

I've been playing with the idea of painting a kind of trompe l'oeil gemstone effect on my nails for awhile, and just cannot get the look I want to actually appear on my nails. This is my compromise. Cartoon gemstones! I'm well aware they also look like turtles, though. And if that moves you in a special way, then turtles they can be. I'm gonna keep revisiting this idea though, I really want it to happen.

Finger Paints Hard Rock Lilac from the Rock My World Collection (Winter 2014)

I picked this polish up from Sally's a few days ago not thinking much about it, just trying to even up the number of Finger Paints I got so I could take advantage of the BOGO sale. I got around to swatching it today and had to post.

Finger Paints Rock Hard Lilac is from the limited edition Rock My World Collection. It's a subdued lilac textured matte metallic, a strange combination of too many finishes. I like that companies are trying new things, though. It's like a less gross version of those China Glaze Crinkle Chromes. I only got the one shade, thinking these were just your standard metallics. Here and here are some swatches to the other three colors.

Here it is with topcoat, which doesn't do much for the texture, but does make it shiny? I think I prefer this shiny, it has an almost hammered metal finish, which is kind of cool. In silver this could be pretty awesome.

OPI Push and Shove

$
0
0

So this is quite belated, as there are plenty of swatches of this online, but I wanted to share anyway. The only shade from the Gwen Stefani collection that interested me was OPI Push and Shove. This is a super reflective, mirror finish silver that I really hope sparks a new finish trend. I want this in every color!

You aren't supposed to wear top coat with this, but it does come with its own base coat, Lay Down That Base, I suppose to make a smooth foundation for the polish. If you've ever tried a chrome polish you know that it show every single flaw. It certainly does nothing for the staying power, as the packaging indicates, this is a "one night only" polish. I wore it out for a friend's bachelorette party and it was a hot mess the next morning. While this does take a lot of babying, I think this is totally worth the effort! So stunning. I can literally see myself in it.

Sinful Colors Mod In Bloom Collection Swatches, Review, and Comparisons! (Spring, 2014)

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! I admit I totally burned myself out on Valentine's Day manis with a single nail art. I have not painted a single heart on my nail since then! Oh well! Instead I have a fun springy collection from Sinful Colors called Mod In Blood. Its very similar to last year's pastel collection, so I've tried to compare shades where needed!

I also did this nail art featuring shades from this collection!

 Sinful Colors Daisy Daze swatch

First is Sinful Colors Daisy Daze, a super pale yellow the shade of banana pudding. This took three coats, but for a pale yellow it was fairly painless. I like this one a lot more than I expected, the shade is delicate but bright!

Sinful Colors Daisy Daze comparison

Here is Daisy daze compared with similar shades from my collection. Maybelline Canary Cool is too pink. Sinful Colors Unicorn, a core shade repromoted in the Sugar Rush collection last year is too dark, as is China Glaze Lemon Fizz. No dupes here, but I do have the makings for a fun ombre.

Sinful Colors Cream Soda swatch

Sinful Colors Cream Soda is a pastel peach shade with an almost imperceptible shimmer. This took three coats, and was a bit of a pain. I don't think the name really fits for this!

Sinful Colors Cream Soda comparison

As you can see here, Cream Soda is almost an exact dupe for last year's Orange Cream, invisible shimmer and all. For comparison's sake, I included NYC Peaches N' Cream, which is too dark, and Sally Hansen Peach Beach, which is too pink. If you were unable to find Orange Cream last time around, maybe you'll have better luck this time with Cream Soda.

Sinful Colors Pink Poppys swatch

Sinful Colors Pink Poppys is spelled in an irritating way but is super cute. I'm not one to pick up a standard pink, and I didn't get either of last year's pinks, but the slight shimmer in this made me throw it in the basket. Love this, two coats.

Sinful Colors Pink Poppys comparison

This shade is probably not that unique, but I didn't have anything quite like it. Sinful Cream Pink, a core shade, it too warm and has a gold shimmer. Sally Hansen Twisted Pink is too dark, as is Fuchsia Power.

Mad About Hue swatch

Sinful Colors Mad About Hue is a warm leaning lilac cream. This took two coats. I love this shade of purple!

Mad About Hue comparison

I thought Mad About Hue was going to be a dupe for last year's Sweet Tooth, but it was far darker. Turns out, it's a very close match to Essie Play Date! Its a tad lighter. Verbena isn't close at all, but I figured it would illustrate how warm this shade is in comparison  to it's bluer sisters.

Sinful Colors Baby Blues swatch

Sinful Colors Baby Blues is a pale blue-leaning lavender with that same barely-there shimmer. Three coats for this one!

Sinful Colors Baby Blues comparison

Some great news for those who couldn't find Candy Coated last year is that Baby Blues is very, very close. Candy Coated is an almost dupe for OPI You're Such A Buda-Pest, and Baby Blues may be even closer! China Glaze Tarty for the Party and Secret Peri-wink-le for comparison, since so many people own these!

Sinful Colors Violets Are Blue swatch

Sinful Colors Violets Are Blue is a periwinkle blue with silvery shimmer. This shade has the most obvious shimmer from the whole collection, and is the standout in my opinion! Three coats.

Sinful Colors Violets Are Blue comparison

I was sure this would be closer the Essie Smooth Sailing, but it's much lighter. It's close shade-wise to Sinful Sail La Vie, but that shimmer makes it softer. Again, I included Secret Peri-wink-le for comparison purposes.

Sinful Colors Bright Lucite swatch

Sinful Colors Bright Lucite is a vivid sky blue creme. Three coats.

Sinful Colors Bright Lucite comparison

I knew that Bright Lucite would not be very unique to my collection, but I wanted to show how close it is to last years Sugar Rush. NYC Raindrop is another close contender!

Sinful Colors Nice Stems swacthes

Finally is Sinful Colors Nice Stems, a blue-green shade with slight shimmer. Three coats. I had hopes that this would be a bit greener, but it's still a nice shade.

Sinful Colors Nice Stems comparison

I was convinced that this would be closer to Sinful Open Seas' green than the aqua shades of China Glaze Aquadelic and For Audrey. Once I put it side by side the blue came through!

Hello! Just thought I'd make a quick post of this nail art I did using OPI Push and Shove as a base! The blue is Sinful Colors My Bouyfriend. I really love this combo, like a futuristic take on Chinese vases.

I used this tutorial from Mr. Candiipants, who is basically my fave nail artist. This is so easy to do and looks deceptively complicated, I highly suggest giving it a try!

Funky Fingers Unicorn Farts

So I finished up my taxes the other day, did some laundry, bought some groceries...and was feeling far too much like a grown up. The only solution was to get this ridiculous polish on my nails. Funky Finger Unicorn Farts (yes, that is the name) makes me giggle and features large hex glitter in a variety of colors all in a clear base. What can I say? I'm a kid at heart.

I bought this 100% for the name, as I could tell just by looking at it it was going to be no fun to apply. This is two "coats", or layers of dip and dab, over Sinful Colors Mad About Hue. The clear base was super goopy at this point, as you can see on my pointer finger. I think in the future I'll only ever fish out glitters and place them one by one. The glitter wasn't too taco-y, as far as I could tell. Funky Fingers can be found at Five Below stores.

Just in case you don't believe in Unicorn Farts:
